Child Care Teacher
Location: Richmond, VA 23298
Employment Type: Direct Hire
Start Date: Ideally 3/2/26
Schedule: Monday–Friday | 7.5-hour shift between 6:00 AM – 8:00 PM (shift TBD)

About the Role
The Child Care Teacher uses the Reggio Emilia approach to create a safe, engaging, and developmentally appropriate learning environment for children ages six weeks to six years . Working as part of a collaborative teaching team, this role supports children’s cognitive, social, emotional, and motor development while fostering independence, creativity, and self-esteem.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and implement age-appropriate lesson plans aligned with Reggio principles
- Document children’s daily progress, observations, and activities; prepare parent reports
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized classroom following infection control and safety standards
- Support cognitive, social, language, and gross/fine motor development
- Supervise teacher aides and volunteers as assigned
- Follow all licensing and accrediting body requirements and center policies
- Promote positive interactions that enhance children’s self-concept and independence
- Participate in staff meetings, required training, and continuing education
- Maintain strong collaboration with teachers, leadership, and families
- Ensure safe supervision indoors, outdoors, and on playgrounds
Required Education
- Associate degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Psychology, Psychology, or related field OR
- High School Diploma or equivalent with 40+ hours of coursework in early childhood education or related field
- Equivalent combination of education and experience considered
Preferred Education & Certification
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Early Childhood or Elementary Education
- Child Development Associate (CDA) Credential
Required Experience & Skills
- Minimum 2 years of experience working with children ages six weeks to six years (paid or unpaid)
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, noisy environment
- Strong communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills
- Ability to manage frequent interactions with parents and families
- Ability to adapt to change and handle multiple priorities
- Physical ability to bend, climb, and move as required in a classroom setting
Preferred Experience
- Experience working with children ages six weeks to two years
- Familiarity with the Reggio Emilia educational philosophy
